Tending Our Own Gardens...

I love this garden. No lawn. Masses of color.

There have been changes for me, sometimes our own gardens need tending.

We as women actually believe we can do it all.

But we can't. And we shouldn't.

I know... now I'm getting personal, but mostly with myself.

It's time to take a breath.

I will be getting soil under my fingernails and sowing seeds in my cutting garden.

I am convinced that flowers could help change the world <3

I will be walking with my dog Roo every morning. ( I called my daughter Lilli, she is my accountibility. And believe me, she will make sure. What was I thinking?)

Mike (my spouse) and I will be heading to the Oregon Coast for a few days to listen to, see, and breath in the ocean. Maybe there will be a storm. We love a good storm.

Mostly I will be seeking and listening. I don't want to miss what He has planned for me.

He is the Creator. The one that all creativity comes from.

It's all about the journey after all.

When The Lights Go Out And The Noise Stops

We lost power last night. I forgot how amazing it is to read by candlelight. No noise or news of the impending snow doom ;), just quiet. Quieter still with the deep blanket of snow outside and no sound of car engines. Magical. A gift. No going back to re-read a sentence or paragraph because of some distraction or beep on my phone. Yes, I turned that off too.

Sometimes we need to step off this Merry-Go-Round where everything's spinning and loud and colorful. Once our foot touches solid ground, suddenly everything stops and we can see things clearly.

And there it is, the thing we long for.

It's Being Called A "Winter Event" And It's Coming Tomorrow!

Isn't that what it's supposed to do? It is winter after all...I even heard someone on the news call it "snowmageddon" That cracked me up!

I had to bring my feeder in and thaw it out for this little guy though...did you know Annas Hummingbirds stay all year? I so love them.

Me? I declare this a SNOW DAY! Remember those in school? My garden chair is under there somewhere...just waiting for Spring gardening days. And I have so much to get ready for, like The Vintage Market next week at the Tacoma Home and Garden Show. For now, I will embrace the quiet beauty of the snow. I will take Roo for walks, and be reminded that these days are truly gifts.

Crazy And Colorful, Snow, and Grace

It was truly a crazy and colorful 2nd Saturdayz...Kris and Kathy's sweet spring displays.

Fresh and flowery hearts cured our spring fever if just for a little while...

And the line of early buyers came from near and far on Saturday's cold winter morning,

Which gave way to this today here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest! A sparrow as confused as we are has already begun to nest in my bucket birdhouse.

Here they were all waiting for me to fill the feeders again...so I did of course ;) We are a bit snowed in as winter has come all at once! From 2nd Saturdayz, to snow, and yes my car is still loaded...because I had flowers to do for a very special winter's wedding today. Yep, quite a weekend.

Which brings me to the "grace" part. You see the sweet bride and her entire family have been through a lot. I hoped they would have the perfect day. And after emergency trips to the hospital at 5am this morning, in the snow caring for her son, this mom of the bride, awash in grace,

gathered herself and glowed as she watched her daughter become a wife today. I am honored to have met her. I think the mom's and sisters and wives I know and love are among the strongest around. I have gained perspective, and have experienced grace.

Find The Love This Saturday...

At 2nd Saturdayz Vintage Market at Magnusen Park in Seattle! We can't wait to see you, we haven't seen you since last year!

I got to spend some time in the woods and gathered up some fresh green moss. We have alot of that here...Isn't it beautiful?

Even our little red hen found some love...All the vendors have been gathering their vintage goodness to share with you all! It's going to be fun I promise! Go to 2nd Saturdayz Vintage Market for directions, and remember, the 520 floating bridge is closed this weekend from Friday night at 11:00 pm until Monday am! So take one of the alternate routes! (you didn't want to pay the new toll anyway right?) Just sayin... :)

2nd Saturdayz! January 14th! Really? Yes!

Is it just me? Christmas, New Years, 2nd Saturdayz...Yikes! Now, see what you have to look forward to? I'm ready. I just keep telling myself that thinking that it will eventually sink in somehow. I just healed (sort of) from tears in my achille's tendon, and hobbling thru shows and the holidays. I kept thinking of "Dory" in Finding Nemo when she kept telling him, "just keep swimming, just keep swimming" you know, it did help! You should try it. Now it's become a staple in my vocabulary...just keep swimming, just keep swimming. (And yes, there are times I say it to myself out loud) Well, sometimes all we can do is tread water. That's

kinda swimming. ;)

So, I was going to gather mounds of lush wet moss today in the woods to work on some Winter Garden things, I put on my gloves, my boots, a hat, went outside and turned right around and went back inside. It is The Pacific Northwest after all...rained out before I got to my car! And did I mention I have that horrible cold everyone who lives here has? Needless to say, I changed my creative plans and pulled out vintage papers, scissors, glue, lit some candles, and a fire in the fireplace, and here's what happened. I LOVE texture, so I'll be bringing some "texture" to 2nd Saturdayz along with Winter Garden inspired vintage to share with you. And the rain? "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming." ;)

I am getting my new studio ready...It will be painted and ready to go by February! Just in time for weddings in March and April. I can't wait to show it to you! My kitchen will be getting a fresh coat of paint at the same time. ;)

I Am Ready To Turn The Corner...

Time to clear away the clutter of this past year, colorful as it was, ;) and lean into what lies ahead. I love a fresh clean space with room for new beginnings. Lot's of color and texture and Spring is ahead! The longest day is past and we get new moments of daylight every day. Now don't get me wrong, I am embracing these long dark and somewhat magical days of winter, and I did love Christmas. But Spring is ahead! My personal favorite season, all fresh and new and full of hope. Can you feel it?

I found this vintage architectural remnant that says Redeeming The Time. A friend asked what it meant. I know it is based on a scripture, so I'm thinking it came from a church. I so love it. I highlighted the carved words with some ivory paint to keep the message clear.

Redeem means to buy back: repurchase.

To get or win back, to free from distresses and harms

So redeeming the time? Making the most of our days, moments and hours as Christmas comes close.

Christ came as a baby, in a cold smelly manger as my Redeemer.

I will not become anxious or overwhelmed.

I will remember if I am warm and fed and clothed, I am rich.

I will be amazed when I look into the eyes of my daughter and realize the awesome gift she is. Born on Christmas day 21 years ago in Romania in a village on The Danube River. The memory of holding her in my arms that first day leaves me breathless still. Happy almost 21st Birthday dear Lilli!

To be married to the love of my life, my husband Mike, who puts up with the "creative chaos" that is my life, he is an amazing gift, and makes me laugh every day.

Remember to take time to enjoy these December days...I injured my foot :( so, I am hobbeling around and (no, I'm not a good patient) taking deep breaths, and icing my foot, and putting it up, in between getting things ready for the market! Somehow it all works out, I am thankful. It will get better. I was determined not to miss the sights, the sounds, the fragrance of this season...well, I got my wish. :) The lights are lit, I'm surrounded by fresh greens, and the candles are burning in anticipation. Advent. Lighting The First Candle

Advent: The coming or arrival of something (someone) extremely important. I lit the first candle on Sunday.

Advent is a Norwegian tradition, that has become more than tradition to me. ( lefse, spritz, and krumkake will all play their part as well ;) It is looking forward and expecting... It has become sacred. Light the next candle with me on Sunday. By Christmas all four candles will be burning brightly.

I Love Small Business. I Shop Small Business...I Hope You Will Too!

Because they're magical. These shops have a soul. Unlike those "other" big corporate warehouses...just sayin ;) Welcome to M & M Antique Mall in Monroe WA. I have a little space here.
Where else can you find vintage floats full of light?
Or retro snowmen candles with a sweet smile? Wonder where they've lived the past 40 or 50 years? I'd love to know the stories, but for now I can imagine.
Or if it's a White Christmas you want, you'll find that too. M&M has a new blog. Hope you'll visit!
During your visit I hope you'll try Adams just down the street! Kathy and I just finished decorating with fresh greens and sparkling lights. He changes his menu seasonally, and supports local organic farms. Love it. Just the other day I had his Butternut Squash Soup, complete with creme fraiche, and toasted hazelnuts...I know! You'll just have to visit! And Jayne's shop, The Golden Mean next to the bakery. Of course my town Snohomish, has the sweetest street of shops, and Monroe is just down the road. If you visit, call me and we'll go visit the bakery, or Joyworks, or Faded Elegance, or Annies, or R&R Square, or M&M! So let's really make a difference this year...if we all do a little we can change a lot.

Being Grateful...

This was my view while harvesting some rosehips for wreaths just the other morning. It took my breath away...And the Snow Geese are back! Thankful.
Our fireplace to warm my toes that were numb. When you are warm and fed and clothed you are rich. Being mindful always of those without warmth and shelter.
If only I could capture and keep this sparkling frosty blanket on these rosehips for my wreaths! Perfectly pretty.

My Sister Heidi's Dining Room

Heidi and Paul ( her husband), are two of the most selfless people I know. Their lives have always been about their family, their church family, and everyone else in between. Paul pastors Freedom Hill (my church;), and works a full time job as well. They are having Thanksgiving at their house, and were ready for a change in their dining room. So yesterday I headed to Tacoma and spent the day with Heidi, re-doing, re-purposing, and re-creating! They hauled everything out ahead of time, painted, and laid a carpet remnant. Fresh pallet! This room functioned as dining room/office/and general everything space for years. Until yesterday. Now it's Heidi's dining room with a sweet little desk donated by Kathy, along with the little cubby on top! Bob and John of JohnBob, gave me a huge beautiful curtain which became a curtain to divide the dining room from the kitchen, a tablecloth, and a runner for the buffet! I donated the ruffled chair, and some fabric I've hunted and gathered, became the soft billowy ceiling to cover that popcorn ceiling stuff!

I so love my friends in this business. They are some of the kindest around. Heidi had this vintage wooden angel, and the little chalk plaque. A perfect marriage don't you think ?

Wish you could see the light above the table. Heidi bought it at 2nd Saturdayz from JohnBob. It's a birdcage pendant light. We went with a Boho look, and since she knows every name of every bird, the whole room has an audubon feel. She opened every door of every cage as well...nothing captive here ;)

Patty of Gather handed me this sweet cage after the last show. I hung it on the wall, and wrapped it with my grapevines. Heidi added a nest she had rescued, and the bird...escaping of course. ;) We had so much fun. And you know, besides the paint, and carpet remnant, we didn't buy a thing. We used what we had in our hands, creativity in action...what do you have in your hand? We are all so thankful. I think it's going to be a good Thanksgiving. Blessings.

Finished Guest Room, Willow Nest, And Roost!

Lillianna, All Grown Up...

Our daughter, who prefers to be called Lilli, with a friend's little daughter Carmen, on Halloween. I remember my mom telling me to embrace every moment with her because they pass so quickly. I'm here to remind all of you young mom's, that my mom was right. The time we have with our children is so precious, almost fragile...embrace every minute. We are so grateful for our Lillianna...Lilli. ;) Love

Welcome To My Home...Reasons I Love This Time Of Year

I love the beautiful leaves on the steps, and my pinkish pumpkins ;)
Although, I need to get these raked for the hundreds of trick-or-treaters that will be here on Monday...
As soon as I get a day, and it's raining, I must bake something...this is the peach and mixed berry crisp from all the summer fruit I have in my freezer. It was a thank you for some help at the show last week.
And then there was this! I have an incredible neighbor who takes care of our 2 dogs when we're away. She truly is a dog whisperer. And she's vegan...so I made her this chocolate beet torte. And a smaller one for my husband. I told him it was vegan AFTER he ate almost the entire cake! It is soooo good if I do say so myself ;) And I used a teaspoon of beet juice to color the frosting. Isn't it pretty? And vanilla almond milk... It's my neighbor's new favorite! If you'd like the recipe, leave me a comment and I'll get it to you.
With baking done, and when the rain lifted, I went outside, filled the bird feeders, and took this picture of the leaves falling on bracken fern. So pretty. It will all be changing so fast.
The Black Walnut tree will be winter bare soon...and a different kind of beautiful. For now I want to celebrate Autumn, and go rake a path up my steps...thank you for visiting, and remember to take time to really see just how beautiful this season is.

Glad of Junebug describes my style as organic...I like it. It's what I love. Mixing vintage textures with what makes the Pacific Northwest so beautiful...bringing what I grow inside. Returning to my inner Flowerchild. Linda of Luluz, complains that it's messy, but I know she secretly likes it...;)
Kathy, of Tattered and Torn, set up with me this past weekend. She is truly French Farmhouse...and so talented.
So, I'm going with Organic French Farmhouse. Everyone keeps asking what I think is selling currently...Shabby? Industrial? Romantic Prairie? (love) I find myself reminding them to do what they love. Do it well. Do it passionately. Trends? They come and go, you can only ride those waves so long before they hit the shore, and they're hitting the shore quickly these days.

The sun was shining just for Amy and Scott this past Saturday for their wedding at Pickering Barn in Issaquah.
I wrapped her bouquet in tartan plaid and buttoned it up in true Scottish style.
You'll have to use your imagination a bit because I tried to capture this on my iphone...all candlelight everywhere.
Perfect for this Autumn wedding.

Hana was 13 years old when she was found outside of her home. She was left there outside. She died that night in May. She lived just north of us in Mt. Vernon WA. She was adopted from Ethiopia in 2008. Her "adoptive parents" read the book "To Train A Child Up" and followed principles of discipline in this book written by Michael and Debi Pearl. I am the mom of an adopted child. Hana's parents are in jail. I am glad. They are criminals. I am heartsick and sad.

What Do I Have In My Hand?

That's the question I have learned to ask myself. I learned it from my sister, who raised lots of kids and learned to live frugally. There is so much all around us! In our gardens, and along roadsides that we can use to bring the season in. Those who know me, know that I'm not a fan of "faux" Why use fake or "faux?" It was supposed to rain today, but it didn't. I spent the day outside gathering. It was a gift.
Filling vintage containers, to bring to Spokane to The Mad Hatter Show this weekend.
What do you have in your Hand? Sometimes you have to stop, and look around you, and really see.
Running to a craft store to buy fake leaves? Really? I'm loving the free real kind. And, I got to be home. Next time you're feeling creative, stay home and look around you. Think of the money you'll save. And you won't have to store anything for next Fall! Just recycle them, or better yet compost! In most countries if you're warm, and fed, and clothed, you are rich. They are right. I am grateful. I am learning. I am blessed.

Being Real...Dirty Cups...And The Mad Hatter

We just finished this bedroom at a dear client's home...they love it. We're so glad. A sanctuary of sorts. sanc*tu*ar*y: a consecrated place.
This junk business isn't always how it appears. It's a lot of work to create sacred spaces...like this cafe ware I found recently...I know, seriously they had been outside for so long they had moss! It took what felt like hours to scrub these clean.
But they were worth it! They found a sweet place of honor at The first Annual Main St Vintage Flea this past weekend. It was so much fun...I still have a few of these in my space. I love them.

And now...next up! The Mad Hatter in Spokane! I love this Spokane group, and you will too I promise. So take a beautiful Autumn road trip, and do some serious Junking September 30th, and October 1st. First day of Fall on Friday, I think I'm finally ready to embrace it all!

Saying Hello To Fall, And What I'm Going To Miss, And How Did We Get Here Already?

Hello Fall. Actually, officially next Friday. Hello 80's Doc Martens, my favorite Fall shoes...
My first official "Fall" show. It's going to be a fun day. I can feel it. I hope you come visit if you can...lot's of good, authentic Junk. Lots of good, authentic people ;)
And now, what I'm going to miss. My cutting garden, and these double cosmos and larkspur.
Bumble Bees. I love Bumbles.
And, delicious local corn. Is there anything better? I want to eat it everyday, because I know it will be over soon...
And a fire on the patio, with smores...we can still do this though! Right? I know, Summer will be back, just a bit melancholy tonight.
And our road trips. I loved sitting with Mike on the edge of this road, our legs dangling off the edge. This mountain road less traveled, a victim of last winter's fury. Isn't this the infrastructure that we're all talking about that needs tending? I'm thinking it's still going to be this way next summer. We'll go back to visit. Until then, good bye Summer, I'll be missing you.

Summer has come to the Pacific Northwest! I love Jane Austen's take on hot weather, so that's why my inelegance. ;) I'm trying to figure out how to welcome our summer, and say goodbye at the same time! Mike and I took a little road trip to Sandpoint Idaho, and visited some sweet friends Hollie and Jennifer at their Funky Junk Show. It was so good! I'll share pictures on a later post. We always take the road less traveled...discovered lost little ghost towns, and did some hunting and gathering. Beautiful lichen covered branches and roadside flowers to dry.
A perfect row of vintage farm tucks. Love.
We stumbled upon Bodie. How many stories linger here in this little ghost town. Loved just listening to the silence, and taking it all in.
Abandoned stairways, once lined with wallpaper. Seemed sacred somehow.

Then we found this vintage bottle tucked in a dark corner, with this little note inside. A treasure hunt of sorts...seems there are people out there looking for these. You're supposed to leave a little vintage gift for the next person to find. I left a tatted piece of lace. There is treasure everywhere, you just have to look for it. We came home with a back seat full of good junk, and a trunk full of branches, lichen, and moss, and a fresh perspective as well.

And then today, I found this sweet little table on the side of the road! Just needed a little attention. ;) And went from this...
To this! I love the look of pickled wood. Just in time for 2nd Saturdayz, coming this Saturday! We will be celebrating all that late Summer has to offer, it's going to be hot, so don't expect me to be elegant as usual...;) Hope to see you!

I am. I can't help it. I just finished re-foofing my space at M&M Antiques in Monroe.

I know Fall is coming...these are my Fall colors ;)

There's a hint of "Late Summer"in my space! Ok, I'm in denial. I do love Fall, but clinging to summer by my fingernails... just not ready to let it go. Although Mike and I went to the Fair tonight and that helped move me ever closer to reality.

And just look! M (Mel) & M (Mildred, Mel's mom) Antique Mall is listed in Flea Market Style Magazine as one of favorites in Washington! And they so deserve it. They are some of the most authentic Junkers around, and also the kindest. It's a place to shop that still has "soul."

I don't think I've ever seen anyone leave without something in their hand. Kimberly Taylor is working on a blog for M&M, so soon you'll get to see some of the "just in" stuff in blogland! I hope you all have a beautiful "late summer" weekend, nope, not Fall yet. Remembering Tiff

We lost Tiff a year ago May. She was my niece. She was beautiful, smart, creative, and had a beautiful voice. She was anorexic. She took her own life. She left 10 brothers and sisters, and a mom, my sister, who loved her deeply. I always believed growing up that love is enough, but have come to realize that sometimes it isn't. Sometimes those we love unconditionally are just not strong enough. The thing I know for sure, is that she is ok. This has been a journey of faith, and will be for some time for my sister and her family. It helps to remember her here, and to see her sweet face. "We are weak, but He is strong". Tiff, we will always love you.

Chuckanut Drive and a Defining Moment...

On Saturday Mike and I went to pick up my mom and dad to spend the day up here in the Skagit Valley. We took them up Chuckanut Drive, a beautiful old road with views of the beautiful San Juan Islands from the top. My dad is a mountain man. He could tell you nearly every lake, stream, or ridge surrounding his beloved Mt. Rainier, and has hiked, hunted, and fished nearly every one. While my mom snapped pictures, my dad caught sight of Mike and I heading up a trail to get a better look. My dad is 83. The trail was rough with rock and roots, he stumbled a bit. (so did I :) There was another family at the bottom of the trail, another grandpa was observing my dad. With no words spoken he found his way to the top of the hill, and as Mike and my dad began the descent, he turned his back and placed my dad's hands on his shoulders to steady him as he hiked down. Not a word was spoken. He was visiting from Colombia, and spoke no english. He didn't need to, his actions and eyes said it all. Tears were running down my face. There were handshakes and embraces. When we got back into the car my dad said, "There are beautiful people everywhere."

I love my mom and dad. We will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with them in a couple weeks. Our lives changed a little yesterday because of the kindness of this Colombian grandpa.

My Morning Glorys are finally blooming! I snapped this picture this morning just before I left.

To hunt and gather a bit. I pulled this from a barn today. It was buried behind a pile of stuff in all of it's peely goodness.

I had to pick up this sign too. Why did anyone use these? What is grass for but to walk, and sit, or lay on? Hilarious! Love it. :)

And then I saw it. The find of the day...I was hot, and thirsty, and sweaty. If there is one thing this Junking biz is not, it's glamorous, right?

Came home and watered my garden and myself! It has been beautiful here, and will be through the weekend! It was a good day :) Making the most of these late summer days because Fall is in the air. Can you feel it? I love Fall, but, really? Happiest sunny days to you, and don't keep off the grass!

Patty of "Gather" traded me some really cool Junk, if I would come and gather up some of her garden stuff...
And make her this water fountain for her back yard. She's always wanted one...she loves it.
So much, that she brought me here to Bakery Nouveau in Alki in Seattle. Have you been here?
Because when you do, seriously, you need to get one of these. This is one of the reasons we love the French ;)
That twice baked chocolate croissant gave me energy to work on this huge windmill. The site of a beautiful beachy wedding this weekend.
A little glimpse of what's been keeping me busy.
We tied hundreds of strips of muslin from this beautiful weeping willow. Just think how beautiful these will be when the willow looses its leaves?
Buckets of oyster shells were dredged off the beach and used as a carpet under the tree and freshly painted gazebo.
More pictures of the wedding will be coming...this is just a peek.
I came home to my colorful garden, picked a big bouquet, sat in my garden chair and fell fast asleep. I love summer.
And still found time to pick up this chair. I've been doing some hunting and gathering for up coming shows. I have never been more thankful for this colorful life. Exhausted, but very thankful. I hope this post finds you immersed in your own colorful life...what are you thankful for? Good night, tomorrow is a new day...make sure you fill it with your own shades of color. ;)

My New Favorite Wholesale Flower Market...

I could live here...seriously. Just a hammock in the corner. Surrounded by local and organically grown flowers, in a beautiful old and worn brick industrial building.

I had to do some flower shopping for a wedding again this weekend! It's outside. And it's going to be beautiful weather. Perfect.

I found everything I needed. Grown right here, supporting the locals. Yay! And they're all gardeners and growers, so everyone's so nice. Have you ever met a mean or grumpy gardener? Nope, me neither!

Jello Mold Farms from up here in the Skagit Valley were there too. I used to drive up there to pick up their gorgeous stuff, but now everyone's all in one spot.

It was a good day. Now, I have a LOT of work to do! Pictures will follow after the weekend. Remember, 2nd Saturdayz is happening at Magnusen Park on Saturday. Do some Junkin for me! Happy Summer Weekend!

Mike and I are talking about downsizing. We moved Lilli (our daughter) into her own little studio apt this week :*( I'm thinking we could live here perhaps?

Awww, this reminds me of the fairy houses I used to make and imagine in the woods behind the house where I grew up. Specifically under the huge vine maple with a moss carpet. We could live here? Simpler and smaller days are just ahead...I'm looking forward to this new season. In my margin I have a quote that says these are difficult times for dreamers...but I think my husband's right. He says, these are the times where we need dreamers like never before, looking at this broken world through a colored lense. The world is broken and love is the missing piece. My niece Noelle's too. Magical day. Magical moments.And my sister Heidi, cause this is how we roll! (When we can;)
Then racing back north in time to junk all day Friday...I took a picture of this sign while grabbing coffee. It made me laugh out loud ;D
And it gave me the energy to drive crazy and have a quick lunch with this mystery junker companion for the day...Shelly of Bungalow Bling! And good thing I fit all the sunny day things into 2 days...Because the rain came back! Just in time for me to go to one of my favorite client Judy's to work in her secret garden. Usually there's a beautiful view of the cascade's from here, just behind those clouds...
We gardeners are a hardy lot here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest...lush and green and WET! While all of you in the Midwest are too HOT! What's happening? The weatherman said that we have had 1 hour and 48 minutes of temperatures of 80 degrees and above since the first day of summer!
These are my rainy gardening summer shoes...they squish when I walk.

I Love "Real"

Meet Heidi my sister, and her summer riding, most favorite horse, Dollar. Yep, that's her name, Dollar.

Heidi is one of the most "real" people that I know. She smiles and laughs a lot.

She will also cry with you, and genuinely hurts when someone else hurts.

So of course she would ride a horse that smiles for the camera. Seriously, it's true. Dollar ALWAYS smiles for the camera.

I've never appreciated my sister Heidi more.

Other real "things" I appreciate. Simple pleasures really:

Butter... ;) no cookies ever allowed without real butter.

A Latte in a real mug. Not paper...awww

ALWAYS real flowers...fake flowers. Why? Nope, not even if you call them "faux" :)

Real (not spray painted) old and worn, rusty, crusty, sometimes peely furniture and found objects that can tell stories in ways we never could. LOVE.

Friends. The few that really "get" me. Even when I go in all directions and then hit the wall. And sometimes cry for no apparent reason. Or can't stop laughing in the most awkward times!

Listening to the quiet in the middle of a wheat field with my spouse. Hearing only the wind. You need to do this...it's free. It's Good.

Glad and Celia of Junebug fame were with us from Spokane! Cel's beautiful wedding can be found in this month's Somerset! So beautiful. I'll be joing them in Spokane for their Mad Hatter Show in October...how much do we love these girls?

Ana and her bouquet, I am so thankful I get to do what I love. I just booked 3 weddings this week! Each bride so different, so much fun...one at a Lighthouse, one in the middle of the city in a park, and the other in a field, where the guests will be sitting on hay bales (with a cushion of burlap) using all things vintage, yay! I get to help set up the Bride's cottage where they'll be getting ready...I'll share the pictures with you! Whew, June has been a blur. Farm Chicks, 2nd Saturdayz, and Retreat Vintage Market, and I just finished foofing my little space at M&M antique mall in Monroe. Go visit! All the vendors are so good! And Jane's store just 2 doors down as well "The Golden Mean" is not to be missed! 2nd Saturdayz Urban Market is coming July 9th, and the famous Cel and Glad of Junebug of Spokane will be with us! So much to look forward to...Summer is really here ;) Mike and I are running away for a couple days, spontaneous trips are the best, aren't they? I hope your days are filled with doing what you love, with those you love. deb ;)

I will RECONNECT with the ones I love. And spend time, because it is our most precious gift. These 2 and the rest of their beautiful family will be home from England soon.

I will GARDEN, and not worry that everything is done or weed free. I will pick flowers, and sit in my garden, and create flowers for weddings for beautiful brides who have their whole life ahead of them...

I will LISTEN to my soul. Summer starts officially on Monday. How will you be spending it?

These 4 girls...were part of one of the Sweetest seasons of my life. I worked with young people for about 20 years. We traveled to Mexico and built houses, to Argentina and sang, and worked, and found friends to last a life time. Allisa (in the blue) married Hector from Argentina. I did the flowers for their wedding ;) Miss Katie, 2nd from the left, trekked all over the world, and settled in California, met Andrew, and again I flew down there and created the flowers for their magical day at a beautiful monastery. Megan on the far right is a mom to sweet babies.
They were teenagers in this picture. I was blessed to be a part of their colorful, creative, courageous, and incredible journeys. Whichever season you are in, embrace it! They pass way too quickly...incredible and colorful seasons just ahead...and I don't want to miss a thing. ;)

It's all so beautiful. And colorful. 2nd Saturdayz June came, and went. These past 2 weeks a blur, I'm the kind of tired when tears well up for no apparent reason...and I long for some quiet.
I don't want to lift, or paint, or wrestle anything into or out of any kind of vehicle. Just for a while...
How can you not love someone this much fun? Lachlund jumping in front of the camera, even after unloading his own truckloads of fabulousness...ta da!

And this, it is all really beautiful don't you think? We all put so much of ourselves out there...and sometimes, we feel a bit fragile. Like we might break if we aren't careful.
Silhouettes of summers past...leaning into to summer present. I'm a bit melancholy today, and being real about it here, because I think that's important. Things in real life are not always how they appear in blogland. Sometimes we are tired, or frustrated, or sad. And that's ok.

Here's my booth just before the doors opened at 8:00 am on Saturday morning. This is my sweet friend Rita, she worked so hard and helped me so much. She had the time of her life! Even when she noticed her ankles were swollen after we finished loading on Sunday...you know the inner tubes you get? "Welcome to the Junk Tribe!" I said. ;) Thank you Rita, you're a trooper.

Here's my friend Dena of Roost there in Spokane. She has such great stuff. She used to call me when I had my shop in Buckley and say, "Hey Deb, I have some good junk for you to come look at!" I loved that, it was always good. I loved that her boys were running about, and they always enthusiastically joined in. We have something else in common as well, we both have adopted daughters. My daughter from Romania, and Dena's daughter from Guatemala. I was honored to meet Ava who is now 4 years old. One of the sweetest times there at the show. We are both so blessed and so thankful. Love.

Always love spending time with John and Bob. We went out for a Thai food feast after our busy opening day. We'll all be at 2nd Saturdayz again this weekend! Yay!
Lisa Souers had this sweet aqua table. It lives at my house now, and one of her bracelets as well. It's sort of a tradition now...I always buy a sweet treasure from her, and one of her famous bracelets. She has the most beautiful red headed Hannah, and this year she had Hannah #2! They are simply the sweetest girls. Love.

When the World is Too Much With Me

I go to my garden for peace. It's there I find that God is in His heaven and all is right with the world...this time it was this beautiful cover crop of red clover in the Willamette Valley on the way to the Oregon Coast.

It took my breath away.

A sweet horse in the neighboring pasture kept us company in exchange for some of the sweet red clover. ;)

Here I am taking a picture of a honey bee. I was surrounded by them. I loved it! There were hives at the other end of the field.

Here's one! I used my phone to get this picture, we were nose to nose. Love honey bees.

We eventually made our way to our destination on the coast. I think it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. We've been coming here for 38 years ;)

Yep, quite a victory in my life. Ton's to do. Farm Chicks next weekend (NEXT WEEKEND) ;) garden tending to be done, there's always more to do. So,I am leaving for the Oregon Coast with my spouse til Monday! To gather a fresh perspective, breathe, get all sandy, eat some clam chowder at where else (?) Mo's! A little last minute junkin along the way to be sure. The little yellow cupboard is coming to Farm Chicks, along with my Mannequin, that will be blooming and growing all summer! Perfect for a Garden Party...just sayin ;) Hope your weekend finds you with the ones you love. This Memorial Day is for being. Not so much doing. So many to remember and honor. This past weekend I found these 4 pink chairs! Had to have them...they're pink! ;)
1930's florist basket, and beautiful Katharine Hepburn-esque straw hats with silkie ties...keeps them on while in your convertible of course.
A gathering of silver trophies, peeley pots, and the sweetest 30's florist basket. Creative chaos everywhere, until it's all packed next week!

My space before the show 2010, everything went so fast! A whirlwind of sorts! It was so fun...I was some kind of tired after that one!

Today the sun came out here in the Pacific Northwest. My feet in petals of pink... ;)
One of my favorite clients called, so I spent the day planting her urns on this patio. So you can see why I love it! Working in the sun with this view, and an occasional deer wandering through?

Pretty soon roses and lavender will be blooming beyond this archway...Donna's secret garden.
I came home and planted my shady window boxes on my own garden shed, with begonias, maidenhair ferns, and white frost. My favorite shade combination.
Looking straight up...see how blue the sky is? No grey, Blue! And some real sun on my face! This was a good day. Hope yours was too. ;)

I Married my Best Friend...

It's Mother's Day. I am Thankful.

This is my mom. She raised five of us and has so many grandkids and great grandkids, that she loves so much. She loves my dad too, and they will be celebrating 60 years of marriage in September. I love you mom.
Here we are, my sister Cheryl on the left, my sister Heidi, and me. All moms, all on this journey together, it can be quite an adventure sometimes. (ad-ven-ture / noun: an unusual, exciting, typically hazardous activity. esp. the exploration of unknown territory). Sound right?

I visited Patty Thompson of Gather today at her cozy home in Seattle. She has been a part of the Junk Tribe from the beginning! This is a vignette in her craft room. Sorry, I only had my phone for a camera, but, I wanted to share my visit with you.

Patty loves everything French as you can see, but genuine Vintage French, with her own personal charming style filling in around all the edges ;) ;)
